
THE COURSE PROSPECTUS
To meet the tong-felt need of a professional course in Tea Management, the
INSTITUTE has introduced the Post Graduate Course in Tea Management from
2000-2001 academic session.
The course aims at providing theoretical knowledge as well as practical training
in the fields and factories in all aspects of tea production, manufacture,
marketing and trade.
OBJECTIVES
* To cater to the need of tea industry in respect of trained Tea Professionals
for plantation and factory.
* To provide specialization and skill in the functional areas of tea plantation
and management.
* To help all those who have already engaged themselves in tea plantations
in the management cadres.
* To contribute to the career development of the individuals who would seek
further advancement on the basis of professional qualifications.
* To train candidates in such a way as may help them get absorbed in the managerial
cadre in tea gardens as well as auxiliary industries.
DURATION AND COURSE CONTENTS : The course is of TWELVE MONTH'S duration.

1. TEA CULTURE AND AGRONOMY
History of Tea-Taxonomy and Botany-Tea Selection and Breeding -Vegetative
propagation-Soil and Climate-Mineral Nutrition and Fertilizer Management-Physiology
in relation
to Productivity-Introduction to Pruning and Shade Management-Drainage-lrrigation-Weed
Management-Pest and Disease Management.
2. TEA PROCESSING
Manufacturing techniques-CTC, Orthodox and Green Tea, Bio chemistry of
Tea Manufacturing process - Operational Control- Concept and Design
of Tea machinery-Alternative
source of energy-Audit-Medicinal properties of tea, Bio Tea. Value
Added Tea. Tea Tasting and Tea Blending. Quality assessment of Tea.
3. TEA MANAGEMENT
Management-Principles and practices-Accounting and Financial Management-Production
Management - Communication and Management Information Service - Personnel
Management and Industrial Relations-Labour Laws-Marketing and Sales
Management-Health Management- Tea Economics- Total Quality Management
4. GENERAL
Nature Study- Land Survey-Computer application-Off Campus training
and Project report preparation.

STUDY MATERIALS
